Pray without Ceasing
March 20, 2006
"Pray without ceasing. Rejoice always. Give thanks in everything!" 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
PRAISE:
Praise the Lord with us that a job has come up for an MBB brother. He was quite discouraged but learned that it is possible to have peace in the middle of trouble.
PETITION:
Pray that God would protect “Bob” as he walks with Jesus. With all of the family and cultural pressure, it is a challenge for new believers to continue to stay strong in the Lord. Also, please pray for Brendan as he disciples Baraka in his new faith.
Pray for the plans for a new church building here to be approved by the various authorities. Pray also that God will provide the finances to go forward with it. Pray with us over all the details - the final design, the vision in the hearts of the people, the official approvals and paperwork, and God's provision for all of this.
Pray for a job & visa for an MBB living in our country.
Pray for Maryam – she is from a neighboring country and has just moved to our country due to family pressure to get married. She didn’t want any of the candidates her parents had selected. She has since left her country and is now in hiding in our country.
Pray for the people in the mountain villages. There is no real Christian contact with these people. They are isolated and are listening to FEBA radio and SAT 7 TV. Pray that they would hear stories that would be encouraging to them.
TESTIMONY:
“Iris” is a National Muslim woman whom I met through a tentmaking family that had befriended her years ago. This dear Christian family had to leave our country because of failing health. They faithfully sowed the seed of God’s word in Iris’ heart for years and modeled Christ to them through their lives. I was able to pick-up where they left off.
Our first few times together went ok – nothing earth shattering in a spiritual sense. This was partly due to the regular presence of Iris’ friend Salama. This lady was always negative about all aspects of her life – her marriage, her kids, things going on in the government, etc. She also was very strict about the external practices of Islam and encouraged Iris to read the Qu’ran, to do the prayers together at prayer time, etc. She would argue vehemently against anything to do with Christianity and tied it in with the war in Iraq, the Palestinian issue or evils of the West in general.
Just this past week, I visited Iris without Salama being there. Iris didn’t invite her along. With just the two of us, we were more free to share our thoughts and issues. In the middle of the conversation she started asking direct questions about Jesus and the Qu’ran. She was asking about some trouble areas most Muslims have with the Bible. After some time, she paused and declared to me that she was a Muslim who loves Jesus. She then proceeded to produce an Arabic/English Bible and some other Christian material that my dear brother & sister had given her years before. All these things were hidden with great difficulty. She quoted several passages of the bible and showed where she was reading in her Bible for quiet time, and some prayer beads that she was using to remind her to pray without ceasing.
