Insight on Natural Disasters

Are you ready for the end? Are you helping others get ready for the end? Here are some thoughts:

Nearing the End?

For one quarter million South East Asians the end of 2004 was the end of the world – the tsunami killed them. For the rest of us the world goes on. The question is for how long? Our world is groaning under an already overwhelming burden of HIV-AIDS – the greatest humanitarian crisis in the history of mankind. Disasters like these should make us query why the UN called the 1990’s, "The Decade for Disaster Reduction". Only three years after the new millennium began 35% more people in the world were suffering from natural disasters than a decade before. Moreover, at the close of 2003 there was a fivefold increase in the death toll from natural disasters over the previous year. Are these coincidental or are they sign posts warning us that the end is drawing near?

Some who read this article may wonder, "How can a good and peace-loving God allow innocent people to suffer? If he controls everything why does he allow war and natural disasters to destroy thousands of people, including innocent women and children?"

... While you wait for internet connections.
... While you are on hold.
... While you get the mail & prepare to read/send mail.
... When you get yet another telemarketing call.
... As you read the newspaper or watch TV, for those concerned in the news stories, particularly the living folks who have been affected, yet remain unreached with the good news of Jesus.
... Before you speak, particularly when someone has offended you.
... After you hear someone's personal concern, that you would keep confidences and that they would find God's grace.
... When you read the morning paper or watch the news.

Pray with your senses:
... When you smell food, give thanks in your heart that God supplies.
... When you hear police sirens, car horns, or shouts, that God would bring His peace.
... When you hear gossip, that it would be stopped.
... When you see crime, that justice would be done.
... When you exercise, that you might grow more disciplined spiritually as well.
... When you taste food, that all who helped in the preparation, from cook to cowherd would be blessed.
... When you feel a hug, that the person would find comfort.
... When you feel a tug, that the little ones would grow strong.

Ephesians 6:18 "Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (NIV)
