Jesus is still the King of kings and Presides over presidents.
ZAMBIA NEWZ
We've been about to bust! But great news must sometimes wait for the right time. His Excellency Levy Mwanawasa, President of the Republic of Zambia, began worshipping at Twin Palm Baptist Church, a small English-language congregation which meets on our Seminary campus, in late 2003. His continued presence was a matter of prayer for many, and soon President Mwanawasa (mwah-nah-WAH-sah) began asking questions about Christian faith and church membership. Counselling sessions led to more interest. It was never a secret, but neither was this news to
exploit. God and His Word often do the best work in quiet.
So today our President was baptized in a small outdoor baptistry behind the classroom block. Not only that, but he gave his testimony before the packed chapel. He told how, like Paul, he had met and been "struck" by Jesus. Then he told us of the "new life" and joy he had found. What a testimony to the power of God's Word and a caring church!
Twin Palm Baptist is by no one's standards a big, powerful, or wealthy congregation. They meet in the Seminary Chapel, meet as a small congregation, and face the same challenges as many Zambian churches. But they love Jesus and each other. They prayed, counseled, and lived an example for everyone to see. Even a President.
The power of the Lord's church is in the Lord, not buildings, staff, or publicity. The movement of His Spirit in a heart is as silent as it is overwhelming, the same power found in churches throughout Zambia and in your church. Think not that your church is poor or powerless. God is neither poor nor without power, and as God's child, neither are you. The seed may grow in secret, but the fruit was there for all to see today. So never despair of the power of the gospel or the willingness of the powerful to acknowledge the greater power of the All-powerful God.
And across Zambia and around the world today, the same Word was preached, the same Spirit was at work, and others followed in the obedience of baptism. Not a bad task in which to be at work. So there, we didn't "bust" and now you know. Praise God.
