PTAP: Pray Through the Arabian Peninsula

Monday, April 18, 2005

Pray for N & K, two young expatriate Arab Muslim Background Believers who have recently received death threats from relatives because of their stated faith in Jesus. One doesn’t have a job and the other was fired because of his conversion. They are under much pressure with very few options. Pray for a break through.

Pray for H, an MBB who is in need of a refugee situation for his wife and 4 children. He has had death threats, been arrested dozens of times for minor things or fabricated crimes just to make his life miserable. Pray that he would keep his hope and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and experience His triumph through these trials.

Pray for the young woman MBB who is studying in a neighboring country but has fellowship with only a few people. Pray that she would be discipled and cared for in these difficult times.

Lift up the tentmaker who was attacked recently in his country of service. It occurred in a park near their home. The family has been shaken by this act of violence and need God’s peace and mercy to move ahead.

Pray for unity amongst the believers in our country, may we all be hearing from God clearly about His way forward - particularly as the number of MBBs increase. Also, Praise God that there seems to be some improvement in the marriage problems we asked for prayer several PTAP weeks ago. Please continue to pray for them.

Pray for the Christian workers who stayed in the hospital in the south part of our country. There has been a major change in management from our NGO to the Ministry of Health. The opportunity to care for people is still great, however we are limited in what we can do. Continue to pray for open doors and opportunities to share about the Life.

Hope Tajikistan #9

April 18, 2005
From: HT@HopeTajikistan.com
Visit: www.HopeTajikistan.com for more info

1. Pray for workers as they seek to engage the community in an effective way. Pray for wisdom in how and when they should share the good news. Pr for soft, receptive hearts on the part of the people in the cities and villages.

2. Please continue to pray for R to have the faith for healing. Her eyesight is failing, she has been to doctor after doctor over the years and had many sorts of strange treatments, and all have failed. (Shades of Luke 8:43!)

3. Pray for the peace of Tajikistan. The neighboring country of Kyrgyzstan just had a quiet revolution that overturned the government and has destabilized the country. The two countries are similar, so pray that God would give great wisdom to the people and leaders of Tajikistan to avoid the need for such a change. Tajikistan was already embroiled in civil war from 1992-97 and needs no more fighting. Pray also that new restrictive laws in Kazakhstan would not be passed and if they are would not have detrimental effects on the status of religious freedom in Tajikistan.

4. Pray for the foreign workers in Tajikistan to be good examples for the nationals (believers and non-believers alike) in the areas of speech, self-control, physical discipline, and spiritual disciplines as well. Recently one worker found that her decision to exercise and watch what she ate was used as a tool for the discipleship of a new believer. May we too learn that when we are hungry it is often for spiritual food, not just physical food.

5. Praise God that new areas are being opened up to the work among the mountain peoples of Tajikistan. This has been a slow, tedious process. But there is fruit and new doors are opening.

6. Pray that God would give his children in Tajikistan His desires for them, and that they would operate out of the things that motivate him.

7. Pray that the people of Tajikistan would stumble on the Rock of Jesus until they find out it is better to make Him the cornerstone. May this happen through their reading and hunger for the Word.

8. Pray for those organizing prayer gatherings on May 15th, the World Day of Prayer. Plan to pray along with them that God would bring spiritual awakening and breakthrough to that part of Central Asia.

9. Hope Tajikistan is challenging people to set aside a week of prayer and fasting for Tajikistan at least once each quarter. The months of emphasis are January, April, July, and October. As God leads, please set aside time for this on your calendars during each of these months and begin praying in earnest for God to work in Tajikistan among these precious people. Perhaps since the end of April is upon us, you might plan to fast the week before May 15th.

Thanks for your diligent, faith-filled prayers,
Hope Tajikistan Prayer Update Coordinator

Why do I do what I do when I do the right thing?

"Why do I do what I do when I do the right thing?"

Maslow argued that it was self-actualization and the motivation for leadership.

But why would that motivate someone to leave the home and family he or she loves, to go far, far away to meet people that sometimes could care less he or she is there? Maslow was out to lunch when it comes to the gospel. Real missionary types are committed to something that goes beyond "finding oneself".

Real missionaries probably will agree with Paul the Missionary:

"Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. He died for all, so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. In other words, God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We plead with you you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." (II Cor. 5:14-20)

Your identity, yes your "self" (i.e. soul) aligns with the real Savior when you are thus motivated. Who you are submits to the I Am who I Am. He is suddenly more supreme than anything else in the whole universe. Sure we care about being fulfilled. But at the end of the day, it's not really all about us. It's about Him. That's why you bought airfare to parts unknown.

A FINAL WORD OF CAUTION: The former is true because Christ was crucified. This is essentially an invitation to suffer with Him so that He might live among you. "I am crucified with Christ, therefore, I no longer live, but Christ lives through me. ..." Galatians 2:22.
