Tajikistan

Please be in deep, serious, extended prayer for May 15. It is the World Day of Prayer. Pray for it also to be a time when God's grace and the light of Jesus Christ would shine on their country. Pray with them for their leaders to have wisdom from God and for their country to grow spiritually, economically, educationally, etc. If led by the Spirit, please join in fasting.

Praise God with us that many of the printed prayer guides have already begun to be distributed. Last month there were about 450 distributed to different churches and individuals in prayer groups across the United States. Pray that other prayer guides would become available for those in other countries who speak different languages.

Pray that the peace of God would rest upon the country and the people of Tajikistan. With the nextdoor revolution of Kyrghistan, there has also been some growing unrest in Tajikistan. The people are still tired of war and don't want another civil war, but we need to pray that God will move to stamp out corruption in the system that perpetuates even greater poverty than the country already has.

Praise God for a how World Health Day was celebrated in Tajikistan. In one city there was a huge fair where believers who care for the peoples' health (physically, spiritually, and emotionally) had set up booths and dramas to reach out to the people. Their efforts were appreciated and much favor was shown them. Pray for these groups that they would be able to follow-up with the many contacts made on that day. There were testimonies of many peoples' gratitude and excitement over the event. May this be another open door to the hearts of these people!

Pray for the many peoples of Tajikistan who send their sons and fathers to Russia or other neighboring countries to find work. Migrant labor is the largest source of export that Tajikistan has. Pray that those going would find Jesus in their travels away from home, and then bring it back to their cities and villages back in Tajikistan. Pray that God would be the Great Provider for those who are left behind in Tajikistan (women and children).

Pray for more workers to be sent into the harvest fields of Tajikistan among the Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Pamiri peoples. One volunteer made such an impact in his short time there that the people in the village where he stayed were still asking about him and wishing he was there. Jesus in Him had made such an impact that he was missed even though he was only there for a few months. Pray for more like him to be called out.

Pray for L and other leaders who's opposition to the gospel is keeping others from knowing Jesus. Pray for favor and for softening of hearts to allow the Good News in to these dark places.

Thanks for praying and remember to never give up in your prayers. Your prayers in faith are music to God's ears and will have eternal effects for the Kingdom. May God find us all to be faithful in this area, joining Him in His purposes as we set aside special and unique times to talk to Him about these things as the Holy Spirit leads.

Special ASM report: Morocco Summit

Most of the 120+ participants reported making strategic connections and almost half expect to enter into new collaboration with others as a result of the Summit. Expectation is running high that there will be much fruit. Nearly ninety percent said the Summit should be repeated. All were encouraged, challenged and edified. Pray for the Summit coordinators as they seek the way forward and make plans for another such gathering.

NORTHEASTERN REGION:
Workers here have seen the mysterious works of the Lord this past month. A short-term volunteer in the earthquake zone was killed in a bombing while visiting Egypt with his brother who is still hospitalized. Please pray for healing for this young man in body, soul, spirit, and emotion. Pray for their family as well. The Lord is at work through this tragedy, reaching some whose lives have been touched by these young men. One person has become an outspoken believer as a direct result.

Pray for workers in the area for health, strength, wisdom, and words as they share holistically with needy people. Pray for workers who will be leaving the field for an extended break and for those who will be taking up their roles during their absence.

Pray the Holy Spirit will prepare hearts to receive the Word as distribution teams come and work through the summer. Pray for progress in the work on Romans, that it may be finalized and recorded in time for this summer's distribution.

NORTHCENTRAL REGION:
"The new brother is rejoicing in his new found faith. He meets each week to pray and study with an expatriate friend and has just begun weekly sessions with a national with a view to joining their house church soon. Continue to lift him up in prayer, and pray for his family and friends who know about his decision to follow Christ, that they'll be challenged to consider Jesus."

CENTRAL REGION:
Please note that there is a day of fasting and prayer for the Berbers of Central Morocco (a.k.a. - Middle Atlas Berbers) on Friday, May 6th.

Radio is an important means of sowing in this region. Pray for technical computer help for those who produce the Berber radio programs.

Pray for a new team that is moving into this area. They are doing some initial projects now. Pray especially for a worker who is battling cancer and for their family. Pray for relationships with people in the village where the team will be working. Ask the Lord to bless the team as they serve Him and to fill them with joy. With lots of transition there will be lots of stress, so lots of prayer is needed.

SOUTHCENTRAL REGION:
Lighthouse Church -
Please pray for a seekers' group that has begun - that those who regularly attend would fully commit to Jesus. One has various doubts; pray for assurance of salvation. Please pray four people will be ready for baptism by the end of May.

Please pray for a weekend away the church is planning this month and that all will have God's wisdom and his presence throughout the time.

Please pray for protection of relationships within the church and for wisdom and provision for various business projects for unemployed believers.

From an expatriate believer in Morocco:
“Friendship is the theme of this week's Christian/Muslim music festival in Marrakech, called "Friendship Fest", May 6-8 (info at ww.friendshipfest.com). This is the first event of its kind in the Arab world and portrays Morocco's desire to improve relations with the West and pursue religious dialogue and interchange. At the same time, the reality is that there will be a huge amount of prayer and praise flowing in and out of Morocco this weekend.
