SOOP Program Improvement Recommendation
A season for salt! Take this email with a grain of it, please.
For a number of years, the MCC [Mennonite Central Committee] has had great success with the SOOP program.
Service Opportunities for Older People (SOOPer) could become even better by joining it to a new Developing Under-age People with Education, Respect, and Service.
Many mission leaders have noticed that young people sometimes get carried away with the missional thing and miss the whole purpose of the trip. Others have noticed that older people sometimes just get pooped out easier than when they were younger.
Wisdom and work need to go together. Strength sure helps when you are serving. Energy is best used when tempered by experience.
So now, instead of just sending out older people to serve the Lord or young folks to preach the good news ... they will go out, hand in hand to reach those communities that are in need around the world. We believe that as this happens wonderful things will take place. It was after all, a 100 year old man who, with his 90 year old wife, had the child of promise. Miracles can happen!!
Will you spread the word about the need for every member of the Body serving with one another? Together, we can make a difference.
What will the name be for this new and improved program put on by the Emcee? Service Opportunities for Older PERsons - Developing Under-age People with Education, Respect, and Service. SOOPer-DUPERS! :-) New & improved.
