AEIOU - Morocco - ASM #69

Arise Shine Morocco
Prayer Bulletin #69 (07/06)
asm@ariseshinemorocco.org <>< <> ><> www.ariseshinemorocco.org

An excerpt from workers:
“There are times when we wonder what God is doing here in Morocco as it takes such a long time to see real fruit. But we know that God loves Morocco and his desire is that Moroccans be healed, whole and receive salvation. This is what we pray for continually.”

“Recently two local believers went to a natural spring which is renowned for its healing properties. Many people go there looking for healing from sickness and disability. As they walked and prayed, one of them saw a vision of Jesus standing in the middle of the crowds of people. Jesus spoke to this young believer inviting him to start praying for these sick people because Jesus wanted to heal them.”

“Emboldened by the vision, he started going to people offering to lay hands on them and pray. Soon people were coming to him begging him to pray for them. They stayed for a few hours praying for many people before they felt they needed to leave to avoid attracting the attention of the police.”

“A few weeks later, the un-saved mother of this believer asked him to take her to an occult practitioner as she was desperate to be healed of a skin disease. The son started to weep for his mother and as his tears fell on her hands, she was completely healed.”

"We are so encouraged to hear such stories. Encouraged by the boldness of this believer and encouraged to pray with more faith to see miracles become a part of the life and ministry of the local church here just as happened in New Testament times. After all, Jesus said we would do even greater things than He did!” Pray!!

Ask the Lord to give isolated believers a desire to meet and to worship with other believers, a desire that overcomes fear and pride. Pray for wisdom for workers as to how they can help this to happen.

Pray the Lord will give believers a desire to sing His praises in their own languages and musical styles. Pray they will create their own ethnic worship music.

Pray for some believers for whom the Lord is answering prayer in miraculous ways. Pray both they and workers will continue to trust God for big things. God is good!

=====
An article of interest: UNEMPLOYED TRY TO COMMIT SUICIDE
RABAT, March 2 (Reuters)
“Thirteen Moroccans driven to desperation by years of unemployment tried to kill themselves on Thursday by drinking petrol and insecticide, witnesses said. The graduates, three of them women, had said a day earlier that they would commit suicide, without saying where or when. After spending the night at a house in the capital Rabat, they poured petrol over themselves. "When they came out of the house, police officers and civilians, even some tramps, ran at them to stop them setting fire to themselves," said one witness said. "Then they drank petrol or poison." The 13 were taken to a hospital in Rabat, where seven were still being held under observation, according to head doctor Yasser Soufiani. None of their lives were in danger, he said.

Morocco must create 400,000 jobs a year over the next 20 years to prevent mass unemployment that would threaten its stability and emerging liberal democracy, an official report said. The official unemployment rate stands at 11.5 percent but is more than double that for qualified graduates. Thousands of them have staged marches in Rabat for the past five years to pressure the authorities to help them find work.

"We concluded that our deaths would be a merciful release from our endless waiting," the group said in a joint statement on Wednesday. "I have no money to buy food or buy train fares. Our life is miserable," said Amina Rakkad, 34, a university graduate with an economics degree. "We are suffering and our parents are suffering in seeing us suffering." In December, six other Moroccans protesting against unemployment suffered burns after setting themselves alight in front of the Health Ministry in Rabat.”

==> PRAY for the Moroccan economy and that such depths of desperation will not lead to suicide or Islamic radicalism but to a crying out to God and the finding of new life in Christ. Pray !!

Prayer Bulletin #64 (02/06)

From a key worker:
Threats on the King
“There is a fundamentalist Muslim group named "al adel wa l ihssan" led by Sheikh Abdessalam Yassin. This group proclaimed that they have seen a vision from God and the prophet Mohammed telling them that they will take over the country in 2006. They are expecting the assassination of the king. Please pray for Morocco and this issue. Pray that the plans of this group will fail. Pray that God’s peace will keep this country from the enemy's plan. Pray that the Lord will protect the king's life and bless him in the name of Jesus.”

NORTHCENTRAL REGION:
Pray for answers to prayer for healing for nationals so the Lord will be glorified and Christian faith and witness is seen to be accompanied by power. Pray for favor in the eyes of local authorities as workers set up businesses and seek residency. Pray for a project now forming that will likely save lives and will minister to some of the most vulnerable and hurting people in Moroccan society.

WESTERN COASTAL REGION:
Praise God for phenomenally rapid growth in a church ministering to expatriates including many African mmigrants and students in this large city. Praise Him for the many who are studying God’s Word through the ministry of this church. Ask God to raise up more teachers and leaders to meet the growing needs.

CENTRAL REGION:
Praise the Lord, the final draft of “God's Story” audio project is completed. In the next step, recordings are matched with film images and a draft master VCD is created. Then workers will re-check it, make any necessary changes, and record a final master before it will be ready for duplication. Pray !!

Pray for wisdom regarding possible distribution of Berber Gospel materials to Berbers traveling through European locations. Praise the Lord for improving Berber language-learning materials and growing numbers of workers studying the local Berber language.

Ask for leading and guidance for a family planning to move into the region. Pray for others seeking where to locate as well as those in the process of setting up residency platforms, getting papers, housing, language helpers, etceteras.

Continue to pray for a group of believers that stopped meeting for worship due to relationship tensions. With so few groups, when one fails it is discouraging. Pray for isolated believers, some isolated by distance and others, as they do not understand their need for fellowship. Pray for wisdom for the workers in contact with them. Pray for provision of good employment for all believers seeking it.

Ask the Lord to strengthen faith in the face of personal trials and difficulty. Worker families have recently experienced such things as a car accident, death in the family, and extended periods of separation, sickness, and theft.

SOUTHCENTRAL REGION:
Lighthouse Church:
Pray as church members travel to another city to encourage members of a new house church. Pray for strong, growing relationships between national churches.

Ask the Lord to bring new disciples to the Lighthouse church. Pray for one young woman to return to the faith and to the church. Pray the children will enjoy the newly begun Sunday School program and that it will help them grow in their faith.

SOUTHWESTERN REGION:
Praise God that He is sending more workers to the Berbers of this region.

Recently workers and local believers have suffered various health problems that have hindered the work. As the growing gospel witness poses a greater threat to the kingdom of darkness, attacks from the devil have increased. Pray for protection of believers and join them in prayer for piercing the darkness that blinds their unbelieving Arab and Berber friends. Pray for freedom from fear for national believers to come together to worship and study God's Word.

Pray for long-term workers as they venture into new “fields” to sow Gospel seed. Pray too for a fresh harvest from fields they have cultivated and sown for years.

NORTHEASTERN REGION:
Pray for good communication and real unity among workers here. There have been situations where "disciples" have gone from group to group thereby avoiding being accountable to anyone.

NORTHCENTRAL REGION:
Pray for an enthusiastic new temporary worker that her experience here will help to clarify her calling, and that God would use her to touch many lives here.

Continue praying for new believer Mohammed. He has had a rough time during and since Ramadan. He is very busy and seems to have no time to meet with workers who are concerned for his growth in Christ.

Praise the Lord for two small Bible study groups that have begun to study the scriptures in Berber! Pray workers and believers will increase in ability and use of stories to share the gospel and Bible truths with friends.

EUROPEAN PORTS:
(Distribution Ministry)
Pray for distributors to fill every need at every port. At least 500 volunteers are needed from the middle of June to the beginning of September.

Pray for the highly effective volunteer Arab “evangelists”. Pray the Lord clearly directs each one He wants to be involved and for their impact in the lives of North Africans. Pray for the granting of their visas and provision of their expenses.

Pray for the leaders at each port and those who serve the overall work. Pray they walk with the Lord, trusting and receiving from Him the wisdom and understanding they need.

WIN: Morocco - Persecution

Morocco, North Africa

Leader: King Mohammad VI
Dominant Religion: Sunni Islam
Christians: <1%
Persecution Ranking: 23rd

King Mohammad VI is endeavouring to promote economic modernisation without alienating the large conservative majority nor emboldening the radical Islamists. He is also working to improve human rights. A Truth and Reconciliation process seeks to bring reconciliation between victims and perpetrators of past abuses. Those Moroccans who chose to follow Jesus during the second half of the twentieth century suffered greatly. Today, their suffering is more subtle, including job discrimination, hassle over renewing passports and other official documents, and harassment from their families.

<+><
Prayer points:

= Pray that the national Church would gain full legal recognition within Moroccan society.

= Pray for the emergence and training of the next generation of national Church leaders.

= Pray that Morocco remains a peaceful, forward looking country for the benefit of all its citizens.

<+><
Almighty God, we lift the people of Morocco before You. Grant success to King Muhammad VI in his endeavours to improve the education system, build the economy, uphold integrity, and improve respect for human rights. LORD Jesus Christ, we thank You that You are re-building Your Church in Morocco in these days. Raise up additional godly leaders who can teach and equip those who choose to follow Jesus to be faithful disciples. Amen.

AEIOU: Morocco Update

Arise Shine Morocco :: Prayer Bulletin #59 (09/05)
www.interum.org/ASM :: asm@interum.org

Pray for a recently married brother in a nearby town who married a woman that is open to the gospel and whose uncle is a believer. Pray for other believers who desire believing spouses.

Pray for various workers in this area who have been sick lately. The heat really gets to everyone. Pray for new workers that will soon arrive.

Pray for workers going through transition due to an expatriate leader leaving. Pray for clear direction for those staying and for encouragement as they continue their work.

Pray for believer M whose personal life has hit a huge hurdle. Pray he will know that God is sovereign and that he will be free from fear.

A family outside the city recently welcomed believers to come and share about their faith. The head of the household was baptized in front of his entire family who remain open to the Good News. Pray they will all soon follow him in the faith.

Praise the Lord as summer teams traveling around Morocco reported excellent opportunities to share openly with seekers. God granted many divine appointments. It was a blessing to reach out in towns and villages with no workers and to find people desiring to know more about Jesus.

Praise God for a few who made first time commitments to follow Jesus. They have now been connected with workers or local believers in nearby cities. Pray follow-up will go smoothly.

Pray for those who are the only believers in their whole town or village. Pray the Holy Spirit will be their teacher and companion, bringing them to maturity in miraculous ways. Pray also for a local believer who desires to grow and be discipled.

Many new workers have arrived or are arriving in Morocco. Pray for cultural adjustment. Pray they soon begin meaningful friendships with Moroccans open to hear their witness. Pray for the expatriate community as they readjust to workers having left and new ones arrived.

Pray workers will be unified in vision and common goals. Pray that those sent by different organizations will be open to working together and sharing their ideas and resources.

Pray for the safe and rapid completion of construction and granting of Certificates of Occupancy for a major facility. Pray many will be served and blessed by it. Pray also for all who serve in it.

Pray for a new team getting started in a work to very needy and hurting group of people. They need authorization for their project and funding. Pray for three or four new teams getting started this fall/winter. Most need to get jobs and projects off the ground, work on language, move to their new areas and make relationships.

Pray for a seminar planned for November. Pray for those speaking and those attending. Pray it will help the advancement of the kingdom. Pray too for a distribution project starting up.

Pray for the recording and production of the God's story video. There have been so many obstacles in this project. Pray for wisdom to know how to move this forward.

<><
Lighthouse Church:
Pray for a sister who loves the Lord but who has not yet made the decision to be baptized. Pray for others to accept the Lord and be baptized this year.

Pray the presence of the Lord would be strong in the church and that miracles will be seen. Pray the Lord will give church members the strength to be self-disciplined. Pray the Lord will meet both the spiritual and material needs of the leader of the church.

Pray for a family in another city that will be opening up their home to serve the Lord this year.

Praise the Lord for the arrival of a new family in the city. Pray for healing and health for the wife who has suffered from stomach problems for a few weeks. She is on medication but is healing very slowly.

Pray for another family that is grieving following the still-born death of their baby in July.

Pray for wisdom and sensitivity for a family that is home-schooling their teenage daughter.

Pray for community building and for getting to know each other better. Growing numbers of workers and their children in town makes it challenging at times to meet together. Many homes are too small to accommodate all. Pray for wisdom as to how to handle this.

Pray for believer “A” who is meeting with a friend of his “B” to discuss the faith and the Bible. Friend B called and asked A to come and speak with him about heaven and other things and to bring the Bible with him.

Pray for small cities and larger towns in the region that currently have no Gospel witness.

<><
Prayer requests from ministries to Moroccans in Europe:
Pray for ministries that will be restarting in September. Many Europeans and missionaries have been on vacation for the month of August. Pray everyone will return refreshed. Pray they will have God's wisdom to know what to do in the coming year. Pray many Moroccans will come to Christ through these ministries.

Pray for two training schools that will start in September. These schools will teach people how to be more effective in reaching Muslims. Pray that the students will get to the school safely, have the finances to get there, and would learn to be more effective in their ministry. Pray the teachers will clearly explain their subjects and that they too would have safe travel to and from the school.

Excerpts from an article of interest:
DROUGHT - RABAT, July 14 (Reuters) from an article by Souhail Karam

Drought is taking its toll on North Africa. The drought encompassing much of North Africa has so far spared Tunisia, but farmers in Algeria and Morocco are clamoring for help, while governments are steeling themselves to bump up imports to feed the population. In Morocco the harvest has shrunk by 57%. Agriculture accounts for 14% of the $49 billion economy but employs 40% of the ten million workforce. The sector produces mainly subsistence crops. A poor farming year often widens poverty and increases urban drift and heavier spending by a cash-tight state to keep farmers on the land. Morocco has so far dedicated seven billion dirham ($778 million) to alleviate the impact of this year's drought on farmers.
