AEIOU - Barriers and Bridges

Please be in prayer for a friend who has been unable to return to the Country we Love for over a year now. His inability to travel there has not stopped his work, but has lessened his opportunities to see first-hand what is happening on the ground as well as to use his trips for effective sharing. Please ask the Father to open the way for him to resume periodic trips into the country.

Thank the Lord for two new friends who will be joining our team for the next year. Ask the Lord to use this time to open their eyes to what He is doing in the Country we Love and to show them what their long-term future role might be, if this is His will for them.

Reach the Lost Arabs

Thank you for your prayers for the friends who made a trip to the region to pray specifically for the Country we Love and to encourage the laborers on the field. The Lord blessed their trip in an amazing way, not only by providing protection in travel, but by allowing them great times of interacting with full- and part-time workers, and being in areas of high concentration of Ls. We are excited about how the Lord will bless the Country we Love as a result of their extra prayer efforts for the people. If you are interested in coming and having a special prayer walk for L, please let us know at reachla at bigfoot (dot) com. The Lord does great things when His people join in prayer.

AEIOU - Pushing Open the Doors

Please be in prayer for those who are stepping out in faith for work and projects needed to establish presence in the land. One friend is beginning the paperwork process for a project, while the funds are still not sufficient to start. Pray that the Lord will provide for the needs of such work.

Also remember other friends who have recently moved and are beginning to get settled, look for work, and begin the process for establishing a business. Pray for them as they work through culture shock and get accustomed to living in an environment which offers little chance for fellowship.

A third family needs prayer for residency permits. Please lift this before the Lord, that he will provide this critical need at a time when laws are once again being changed in a land of continual flux.

AEIOU - North Africa

When a person has experienced the peace of being in the center of God's will, it is hard to live outside it. Please be in prayer for a couple from the region who have lived and served previously in a particular country, but returned to their home country for a variety of reasons. Since being "home" they have felt such a burden to return once again, knowing this is where God wants to use them.

Ask the Lord to open doors for them to return and serve once again among the people they have grown to love.

PTAP: Walking with the Lord in a Dry Land

"Blessed are all in whose hearts are the highways of Zion!" - Psalm 84

PRAISE:
Praise God for the favorable response given to a Sporting supply company owned by tentmaking Christians. They have planned strategically to open an office ahead of the Asian Games where hundreds of Muslim athletes from the Arabian Peninsula will be participating.

Petition:

Please pray for a local husband and wife that have shown some interest in the Gospel. Pray for a continued openness to Jesus and toward the tentmakers God has brought into their lives.

Pray for a local Muslim woman who has been open to talking about Jesus. She often enjoys having Christians pray for her. Pray that she will remain open to the truth and clearly see her need to be reconciled to God through Jesus.

Pray for local believers as the Hajj seasons draws closer. Some of them will be reaching out to help their Muslim friends and family members question the ritualistic tasks incorporated into the Hajj. Pray that these believers will be wise in their witness. Pray that God would provide
a way for them to join with pilgrims on the Hajj to reach them for Christ.

Pray for some new Muslim background believers - for God's joy to be with them and for an increased understanding of the truth of God's word. Pray for two women who have a burden for their teen & adult children - that they would hear, understand and be drawn to Christ. Pray that they
would be able to have times of fellowship and encouragement.

Pray for the key tentmaker who has a CT scan to determine the success of his cancer treatment early this week. They praise the Lord for His kindness and mercy over the past several weeks of intense medical treatment.

TESTIMONY:
Suahaila is a middle aged Sudanese Muslim woman working in a government university in one of the more progressive Arabian Peninsula countries. She has been interested in Christian – Muslim dialog for the past few years. Last year she asked one of the professors for an Arabic/English New Testament. Several months later she asked another female staff at the university about church services in the city. During this past Ramadan, she was openly reading the New Testament during her prayer breaks – much to the concern of the many other Muslim staff. Recently she went on a safari with some people from the university and their friends – one of which is a Muslim Background Believer. She and Suhaila had some very interesting conversations around the campfire and in the crowded car on the way back to the big city. During their time together, Suhaila revealed that she was lonely, hurting and looking for people who will love her. She has expressed keen interest in getting together with her new friends. Praise the Lord for divine appointments like these. Pray that these people will come to faith.

PTAP: Eid al-Milad Al-Masih! (Merry Christmas!!)

December 26, 2005 [for the Feast of Christ's birth]

"A Savior has been born: Christ the Lord!"

PRAISE:
God has done wonderful things in ways we never thought possible. This past week over 50 Chinese construction laborers came to faith in Jesus through a labor dispute. A key Chinese pastor became involved in the settlement of the dispute bringing hundreds of Chinese a chance to ‘see’ the Gospel in action. This is just one of many instances where several hundred Chinese have come to faith across the Arabian Peninsula over the past 2 years.

PETITION:
Pray for the workers here as they reach out and share with friends and colleagues during this Christmas season. Pray for open door and opportunities to share about the birth of the Saviour. Pray for those hosting small events with food and sharing - that God would open people's hearts.

The expatriate fellowships are under surveilence by the local authorities. Pray that the people in the fellowships would not surrender to fear or become entangled by it.

There are a number of local believers in the remote areas of our country. Pray that they would continue to be blessed by the Savior as they walk with Him many times extremely isolated - no fellowship for weeks or months.

Pray for a small Farsi speaking fellowship that is experiencing conflict. The Evil One is seeking to sow division. Pray for the Iranian brother who is providing leadership to this group of young believers.

Pray for God’s intervention in the life of a young Muslim Background Believer who is in the process of "de-brainwashing" by her parents. She has cut off all contact with Christians and isolated herself from any non-family input.

PRAISE:
Three figures, clad in the black, flowing head-to-toe coverings of women came to visit at our home. I [Rhema]greeted them enthusiastically and, although they returned the greetings, I did not recognize any of their voices. Arabic greetings are long, so they were already in the house and into the family room before I could finally say, “Forgive me, but do I know you?” They replied, “No.”

Safely away from the eyes of men, the visitors now lifted their veils and I could see fear on their faces. Their eyes were darting around the room as if looking for something. While the leader of the trio tried to make small talk, another was rapidly going through her prayer beads. I got the idea that the lady visitors were scared to be there, inside the Christians’ home. They did not offer names, as that is considered a more personal gesture of friendship. Instead, they told me who else they knew in the neighborhood, to establish their own credibility, and that they belong to a Pakistani Muslim family 2 doors down.

All three ladies seemed to lighten up a bit when I brought in refreshments. Honoring them through hospitality demonstrated respect for them, and a desire to be on good terms. After some light-hearted humor got them to smile, the ladies finally came out with the reason for their
visit. "Why are you not a Muslim? Would you like to become a Muslim? We have brought you a gift," the leader of the trio blurted out and handed me an Arabic-English copy of the Quran. Is that what they’re so frightened about? I thought they’re nervous about trying to convert us to Islam! These women are here to share their faith and are expecting the worst. I need to make them comfortable. I have to make sure they leave here knowing we are friends and that I want them to talk about their
faith to me. The missionary’s goal for the evening was set.

"A Quran! How kind of you to bring me this. I am so happy to meet women who like to talk about the things of God. That’s one of my favorite subjects!" she glowed with welcome. The trio was visibly relieved. One who had sat tensely on the edge of her seat now leaned back on the
sofa and smiled. "You like the Quran?" the leader asked, surprised.

"Well, I have only read parts of it, and I do have some questions. But my Muslim friends and I talk for hours about the Quran and the Bible."

“What are your questions?” the leader inquired, straightening up. She had had some Islamic training, unlike the others, and could read the Arabic text. (This was important since the Quran isn’t considered the
“real” word of God in any other language.)

I retrieved a Quran from the office, opened to some specific verses and showed them to the neighbor, who read them out loud. "Now, doesn’t this verse 4:136 say that Muslims should believe ‘in the Quran, Muhammad, and in the Book that came before’?" They all nodded agreement. "Well, isn’t my Book, the Bible, ‘the Book that came before’?" All nodded again. "Then why do Muslims not believe my Book?" Everyone smiled and
started talking at once. There was a very simple explanation for this! The leader motioned to the other ladies to be silent, and she very matter-of-factly answered, "Because we believe in the original Bible that
God gave to man, but the Bible you have today has been changed." Her pleased expression seemed to say, "case closed."

“But,” I said “if the Bible was changed before Muhammad’s time, then why did he say to believe it? He would have warned you not to believe it, right?” “Right, it must have been changed after.” Only the leader had offered an explanation that time--and quickly, but with somewhat less
conviction than her first response. “Well, that’s what I would have thought, too,” I agreed. “To make sense, the Bible would have had to be changed after. The only problem is we have Bibles older than the Quran and they are the same as the one I read today. Have you ever been to one of those museums—I went to one in Jordan—where they have some of the Dead Sea Scrolls on display? But, back to the Quran--I don’t know what to do about these other verses either,” I pointed to 6:114 & 155, which the head of the trio also read alooud. These verses state that
God sent down His word from Heaven and that “none can change His words." To make the point clear, I asked with a puzzled tone, "If the Quran tells Muslims that the Bible is God’s word, and that God’s word can’t be changed, and that they should believe it, then why do so many Muslims
believe exactly the opposite? Where does this opposite teaching come from and why would a Muslim accept it? I guess that is basically my question."

The leader of the group, who had been sitting directly in front of the air conditioner the whole time, was now perspiring so heavily that her black covering was darkening. Furtive glances were exchanged between
the three women, "It does say that. Why do we believe that the Bible is changed?" Contradicting the Quran is, of course, not a light thing for them. Noticing that her guests were really starting to think, yet not wanting them to be culturally "shamed," I encouraged them, "Don’t worry
if you don’t know the answer to my question. I’ve been asking lots of Muslim friends this for years and no one seems to know the answer. I should really just make an appointment to talk to a mutawwa (relgious teacher) about questions like these!" It was important that they save face and, after all, they already had plenty to think about. The visit ended on much lighter subjects, and as the women left they gave an open invitation, "Please come to our house and visit us anytime. Bring your Book and we’ll talk some more."

Praise God for this open door! Pray for wisdom as I share with these ladies often.

PTAP: Open Doors & Resources

Monday, November 21, 2005

"Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on!'" Exodus 14:15

PRAISE:
We are very excited that several tentmaking expatriate Arabs from Jordan. Lebanon, Syria and Egypt have stepped out in faith and came to the region to seek out employment opportunities. All of the brothers received offers of employment and are praying through the next stage of living in the Arabian Peninsula. The expatriate Arab church can be a powerful tool in the establishing of the church in the AP.

PETITION:
Pray for the work of a medical NGO in a rural mountainous region of the southernmost country in the Arabian Peninsula. This ministry must travel by military escort due to the hostile militia active in the area. Pray for faithfulness and grace.

Pray for the family in our country that had to leave the field due to many issues with their older teenaged son. Pray that they would get the help they need in their home country, that the Lord would keep his hand on this young man’s life and for a continuation of the relationships with National Muslims and MBBs this family leaves behind.

Pray for the 4 MBBs in our country that are struggling in many areas of their lives – relationships with spouses, near and distant families.

Pray for the continued spiritual growth of Sandra, a National woman who recently came to faith. She has real challenges in relating to her non-believing husband who has been violent with her before.

Pray for the special prayer ministry that a couple have for our country and the whole region. This couple operates a house set aside for prayer – for personal needs, country and regional needs and ministry opportunities.

Pray that more workers would come to the Arabian Peninsula. The current tentmakers on the ground cannot follow-up the MBBs that need discipling let alone reach out to new people.

TESTIMONY:
Our family first met Moza when she was a pre-teen girl out for a walk in our neighborhood with her cousins and a friend. They saw my husband and children playing in the empty desert lot near our home. Moza was the exact same age as our oldest daughter and a friendship quickly developed. We would see them in the winter and at every Eid they would come over for a visit. Each visit was a mish-mash of English and Arabic – many times the girls trying to evangelise our daughters.

When the girls became teenagers, things changed. We didn’t see them out and about in the neighborhood often and only for a short while during the Eid. We didn’t know why they came less and less and finally not at all. We had great hopes for a local girl friend for our daughter. Their families had discouraged the girls from interacting with us and sought to encourage greater adherence to Islam witnessed by tight hijab (head scarf) and wearing outer abayas (gowns).

After a 4 year gap, Moza knocked on our door and asked for our oldest daughter. She was now in the university and needed help with her English. Gladly the two young ladies studied her books together and the relationship rekindled. Moza stayed away from religious topics but was warm and friendly. After our daughter went to our home country to study, Moza still came for English help and more and more to hang around our house. She liked being in our busy home and to be part of our family. She still kept religious things out of the conversation or would politely listen to me read the Bible when explaining an English concept to her.

However, just last week, during a study time together she was very straight forward and asked why Christians and Muslims are different. It was an opportunity to clearly share about the relationship I have with God through Jesus, not based on my works but on His finished work. She was very interested and is open to more discussion.

It took several years of family witness to this young National woman before she opened up to hear the Gospel. We are thankful for our long-time relationship and through it earned the privilege to share the Good News. We are asking God to speak to her through dreams and visions and to use our times together for His glory.

INTERCESSORS' NETWORK <intercessors.network@comhem.se>
Sends out news for intercession from a diverse number of countries around the globe, sometimes including items from the Arabian Peninsula. For example, this past week, news was sent regarding Mohammad al-Harbi, who was brutally treated in Saudi Arabia.

(IsraelNN.com) A secondary school teacher in Saudi Arabia was charged with "dubious ideology, mocking religion, saying the Jews were right, discussing the Gospel and preventing students from leaving class to wash for prayer," according to the Saudi newspaper Al-Madina. The teacher, Mohammed Al-Harbi, was sentenced to 40 months in jail and 750 lashes for his "crimes". He was denounced by colleagues and students at his school. The Saudi authorities and Arab newspapers are presenting it as a case of the teacher "mocking religion" and receiving the appropriate penalty.

Please pray for Al-Harbi & all involved in this case.
