I haven't written anything here in a while because I've been working (as I said before) on converting everybody.org from FreeBSD to Debian Linux.
It was a huge strain. There were a couple of, literally, sleepless nights as I struggled to bring everything under control.
Now, it seems to be fairly stable, I've discovered and eliminated a number of glitches, what does this gain us besides a giant headache for me and the users?
The most user-visible improvement I plan to implement is the ability to for users to have fine-grained control over their email account. Some ideas:
- Automatic mailing list sorting. Specifically, I want to allow users to have their email sorted into subfolders on the server.
- Fine-grained individual spamming controls. We will be using spamassassin to give the users fine-grained control over what spam to block and what to do with the blocked email.
- Easy forwarding to any other mailbox.
- Address books. If you can use LDAP, you will have a personal address book that you can access anywhere.
There are other things, but that'll do for now.
