Last night was great.

Holidays ("Holy Days") only have meaning when you put some effort into them. When I began fasting after I became Orthodox, Easter/Pascha took on more meaning. Weird as it is, it is awesome to sit down with people in your religious community to actually commune at two o' clock in the morning. I brought a bottle of wine (I'm saving the beer for later) and shared it. I also remembered why I don't drink vodka after sharing some cherry vodka with a Russian Orthodox friend.

Oh, and perhaps later this week I'll go see Spiderman with a friend from church. I've been helping him out for the past few months with some things and I've come to identify in him a fellow traveler.

In watching my own children (and others'), the thing I love the most about them is the joy they find in even the smallest things.

Many of us have become so jaded in our cynicism that we find it very difficult to have joy in anything. We scoff and mock almost everything, and when we do, we deprive ourselves of finding any joy in almost anything.

In fact, Christ said "anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it", but many times I find that my cynicism keeps me from the here-and-now kingdome of God.

Small children know a lot about joy. Sometimes, it seems they know more than many of the rest of us.
